Facebook ads vs Google ads

One creates demand, the other harvests it. Which one you start with depends on whether people are already searching for what you sell.

The comparison is usually framed as a fight. It is not. They do different jobs, and choosing between them is mostly a question about your product.

Google harvests

Someone typing "waterproof hiking boots size 43" has already decided. You are competing on price, availability and trust, not on persuasion. Intent is high, volume is capped by how many people are searching, and the cost per click reflects that everybody wants those searches.

Meta creates

Nobody searches for a product they have never heard of. If what you sell solves a problem people have accepted as normal, your growth comes from showing it to someone who was not looking. That is a creative problem before it is a media problem.

A simple rule to start with

  • People search for your category by name → start on Google, then add Meta to grow the pool.
  • Your product needs explaining → start on Meta, and let Google catch the branded searches your ads create.
  • Small budget → one platform only. Split budgets learn twice as slowly and cost twice as much to read.

One thing carries across both: the same angle that lifts a Meta creative usually lifts a search headline too. Test the idea where feedback is fastest, then reuse what wins.
